About Us

At The Chocolate Libertine our founding principle is to put artistic creativity at the heart of all our products; everything we produce is painstakingly designed and made by hand. As well as being a fascinating medium to work with, chocolate is an exacting science, and its complex crystalline structure always presents amazing possibilities. We use it as paint or blend it with other premium ingredients to achieve vibrant colours and delicious flavours.

For our novelties and Easter eggs we combine the traditional techniques of piping and laminating layers of different couvertures with our modern use of lustre and colour in order to achieve our beautiful painterly effects. We also only use the finest Belgian chocolate, the best natural ingredients and colours to ensure our chocolate tastes as good as it looks!

The nature of our work means that each piece is unique.

Based in the small Buckinghamshire village of Stoke Poges, our small but dedicated team packs everything by hand to ensure that every product meets our exacting standards and reaches you just as it left us.

Julie Devonald
Head Chocolatier and Founder

"I have been working with chocolate for over twenty years, taking my artistic skills from textile design into a temporary job for the leading British chocolatier of the time, Gerard Ronay. I stayed, and continued to work under his tutelage for three years, learning more about the wonderful potential of chocolate and experimenting with colour and design. I went on to work with other award-winning London-based chocolate houses before founding The Chocolate Libertine in 2009".

ABOUT OUR PACKAGING

We are working hard to source more environmentally friendly alternatives to our packaging. Please refer to the below guide for information on our biodegradable and recyclable packaging.

Outer Packaging: Our cardboard boxes and bubble wrap are recyclable, and our biodegradable foam peanuts are actually made from corn starch so are suitable for home composting.

Bar, Thins and Easter Egg Bags: The bags we use for these products are compostable, and suitable for disposal in your home compost or food bins. However, the labels we use are currently not compostable, so until we find an alternative please peel them off or cut around them before composting your bags.

Tile and Easter Egg Boxes: The bases of our boxes are recyclable, as is the paper shred we use to pack our Easter Eggs. However, the labels we use are currently not recyclable, so until we find an alternative please peel them off or cut around them before recycling your boxes.

If you would like to know more about the packaging of a specific product please get in touch with us, we're more than happy to help!
